Beginning and journey of progress

The Param (Supreme) Guru of all of us, Shasan Samrat Pujya Acharya Bhagwant Shri Vijay Nemisuriswarji Maharaj was truly the emperor of the entire Jain-Dharma regime with his talent, knowledge power and experience. He was a master of the scriptures. He studied all the philosophies, grammar, literature, poetry, rhymes, figure of speech, principles along with fundamental study of Aagamas (Jain Scriptures). On the strength of the knowledge of truthful scriptures and honesty, he also composed texts on the subjects of logic, grammar and some doctrines of Jain philosophies etc.

He had hundreds of his disciples, Prashishya (sub-disciples). Amongst them eight disciples were as talented as legends and genius of various academic branches. Among them all, two of the principal disciples were like his shadows, who had imbibed all his knowledge and experience.

Our Guru Bhagwant Acharya Shri Vijay Sheelchandrasurishwarji maharaj was worthy of the grace of those two revered bhagwants, especially with Pujya Acharya Shri Vijay Nandansurishwarji Maharaj Saheb, for last decade of his life and imbibed his knowledge and experience.

That revered Acharya Shri Vijay Nandansurishwarji Maharaj, passed away in Vikram Samvat 2023, vad (dark half) 14th day of Magshirsh, in Tagdi village near Dhandhuka Nagar, the birthplace of Kalikal Sarvagnya Shri Hemchandracharya.

At that place, Jain followers have established a tirth (Pilgrimage place) known as Nandanvan Tirth,
with the inspirational guidance and encouragement from Guru Bhagwant Acharya Shri Vijay Sheelchandrasurishwarji maharaj.

This pilgrimage was established on the Sud (bright half) 5th day of of Falgun, 2055 (Vikram Samvat). In view of that occasion, our Pu. Guru Bhagwant inspired three of us ascetics (Muni Ratnakirtivijay, Muni Dharmakirtivijay, Muni Kalyanakirtivijay) saying, “Jain Shravak (followers) will do Jinbhakti (devotion for Jineshwar bhagvant) and gurubhakti (devotion for Spiritual Mentors) by spending wealth. We can’t do that. So let’s do something in the field of knowledge as gurubhakti. Also, in the entire Jain community, today hundreds of magazines are published in many languages, but not a single magazine is published in Sanskrit language.”

“All of you have studied grammar-literature, so I wish that all three of you should come together and create a new Sanskrit literature of different kinds, publish a Sanskrit-magazine with that material – In memory of Pu. Acharya Bhagwant Shri Vijay Nandansurishwarji M. S“.

Though we were completely unaware of Sanskrit literature, with the full guidance and warm support of Guru Bhagwant, the little literature with Praisings to Paramatma (Stuti), eulogy (Stavan) -contemplation (Chintan) – biographies (Charitra) – stories (Katha)- Drama (natak) – comedy (Hasya) writings, etc. were published, which were edited by Pu. Gurubhagwant. Using these materials, on the occasion of the foundation of Shree Nandanvan tirth on the Uttarayan of Vikram samvat 2055, we published the first edition of Sanskrit magazine ‘Nandanvankalpataru’, titled on the name of the tirth.

The journey, thus begun which started in this way has reached the 50th mark today. Till today, in this magazine, hundreds of hymns – eulogies, ghazals, contemplations, character sketch, translations, plays, stories, comedies, and commentary poetry in Prakrit language – stories have been published. Several books have been published on the bases of this magazine.

Only due to the affection towards the Sanskrit language and knowledge, many scholars and many Sadhu- Sadhveeji bhagvant (male-female ascetics), from all over the country have co-operated, in this path of progress.
